Antke Engel

Antke Engel is director of the Institute for Queer Theory in Berlin; a site where academic debate meets up with activism and artistic practices. She holds a PhD in philosophy and works as an independent scholar in the fields of queer theory, post-structuralist philosophy, and visual cultural studies. She has published two monographs: Wider die Eindeutigkeit (2002) and
Bilder von Sexualität und Ökonomie (2009), and recently co-edited Bossing Images (NGBK 2012). She also lectured widely and published numerous essays on questions of gender equality, diversity politics, and symbolic violence, with a particular focus on artistic strategies, e.g. in e-flux journal.
