Tessa Lewin


Tessa Lewin is a Southern African artist and researcher based in Brighton. She is a research fellow at the Institute of Development Studies (www.ids.ac.uk) where she uses visual and creative methods for participatory research. She is also a doctoral candidate at the University of Brighton (www.brighton.ac.uk). Her PhD explores Queer Visual Activism in contemporary South Africa.
Tessa studied politics and art history at the University of Cape Town where her Honours thesis at UCT looked at Masculinity and Violence in New Crossroads. She did her MA in Digital Moving Image at London Metropolitan University. She has worked as an illustrator, an animator, an arts administrator, and a researcher.
